From documenting scenes and collecting evidence to photographing, fingerprinting, and helping piece together the details that matter most, your work will play a vital role in supporting investigations and serving the community.
- Typical Tasks
- Processes crime scenes by processing evidence for fingerprints, examining items for trace evidence, packaging and transporting evidence, collecting shoe and tire impressions, completing safely collecting biohazard evidence, performing tests for semen and blood, taking samples when necessary, and knowing laws relating to search and seizure.
- Processing crime scenes with still and video photographs by utilizing photographic techniques, understanding equipment, taking overall photos and up close photos, and preserving photos for courtroom presentation.
- Processes prisoners by using LiveScan system for fingerprinting, using a camera to obtain photograph of suspect, completing documentation of arrest procedure, utilizing officer safety techniques, and utilizing protective equipment while processing suspects.
- Writes reports by including all relevant information concerning incident to use in the courtroom, and following accepted report format.
- Prepares for court by reviewing all documents, meeting with District Attorney, and completing sketches and diagrams of crime scene.

This position plays a critical role in preserving and documenting evidence, processing crime scenes, and preparing accurate information that supports investigations and courtroom proceedings. From the crime scene to the courtroom, your work helps protect the integrity of the process and supports the pursuit of justice.
- Qualifications
- Required Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or equivalent (Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in a related field preferred)
- Valid US Driver's License
Other Requirements- General knowledge of methods and standards employed in forensic science
- General knowledge of rules of evidence
- General knowledge of photography
- Ability to maintain confidentiality
- Ability to follow complex oral and written directions
- Ability to use all issued equipment at the required level of proficiency
- Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, orally and in writing
- Ability to present clear and concise testimony in court
- Ability to work independently in the absence of direct supervision
- Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and position specific software
- Ability to maintain effective working relationships with investigators, court personnel, suspects, supervisors, co-workers and members of the public

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Exerting 50-100 lbs. occasionally, 20-50 lbs. frequently, or up to 10-20 lbs. constantly.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
This position generally requires work in a vehicle, office and outdoors.
